Luboš Fišer’s Violin Concerto at the Prague Spring Festival
For Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Luboš Fišer is one of the most significant and fascinating Czech composers. On 19 May 2026 she performs his 1997 Violin Concerto with the Czech Philharmonic under Jakub Hrůša as part of the Prague Spring Festival. This was the composer’s last completed work. Bärenreiter Praha was invited to create the performance material by the Festival. “The music of Luboš Fišer has literally overwhelmed me with its archaic power,” says Patricia Kopatchinskaja. “ ‘Crux’ for violin and timpani, the Sonata ‘Ruce’ for violin and piano, the Solo Sonata for Violin, the Violin Concerto: everything has such a strong intensity, unconditionality, and primeval power composed in a clear structure, that it directly hits the mark with me and never leaves me uninvolved.” (Photo: Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Pascal Viglino playing Fišer‘s „Crux“ at Prague Spring Festival 2025, photo: Prague Spring Festival/Milan Mošna)
