“de figuris”: Philipp Maintz’s new Organ Concerto

Philipp Maintz’s “de figuris”, a concerto for organ and large orchestra, draws its inspiration from the “Apocalipsis cum figuris”, Albrecht Dürer’s depiction of the apocalypse in fourteen scenes of 1498. The result is “a large, almost ‘symphonic’ tableau of flowing transitions and changes of perspective, as you might experience when you lose yourself flicking backwards and forwards, contemplating these woodcuts of the apocalypse.” The premiere on 17 September 2020 in the Palais des Beaux Arts will be given by Lؘászló Fassang (organ) and the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège conducted by Gergely Madaras. A further performance follows on 18 September 2020 in Liège.
