Gluck’s “Le feste d’Apollo” in London
Christoph Willibald Gluck arranged or newly composed three one-act operas for the festivities for the wedding of Archduchess Maria Amalie of Austria to the Infante Ferdinand of Spain on 24 August 1769 in Parma. Collectively entitled “Le feste d’Apollo”, two of these are being performed at the end of May for the first time using the Gluck Complete Works edition in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. The semi-staged performances of “L’atto d’Orfeo” and “Bauci e Filemone” on 29 and 31 May 2019 will be given by Classical Opera conducted by Ian Page. The director is Nick Winston.
