Franz Schubert's "Des Teufels Lustschloss" in Würzburg
Franz Schubert's stage works continue to be overshadowed by his output of songs and his instrumental music. And so, plans by the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg to stage the 'magic opera' Des Teufels Lustschloss will be enthusiastically welcomed.
Schubert set this important three-act work, based on a play by August von Kotzebue, at the age of just 17, almost under the eyes of his mentor Antonio Salieri. The first performance of Peter P. Pachl's new production was on 16 February 2013. Würzburg Music Director Enrico Calesso conducted, using performance material from the New Schubert Edition.
