Beat Furrer at 60 / Great Austrian State Prize
Beat Furrer celebrates his 60th birthday on 6 December. In and around Vienna, numerous events are devoted to the composer, one of the most influential personalities of his generation. Furrer acts as an artistic creator, a teacher, founder of the Klangforum Wien and “impuls”, the international academy for contemporary music in Graz, and as a conductor and initiator. As part of the Klangforum’s “Urbo kune” project, Furrer’s Xenos-Szenen, Ira-Arca and the ensemble work linea dell’orizzonte will be performed in Klosterneuburg. The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna is organising a symposium, ORF is broadcasting a Long Night devoted to Beat Furrer’s works. Furrer will be awarded the Great Austrian State Prize in spring 2015.
