New Anton Bruckner Complete Edition

Musikwissenschaftlicher Verlag Wien has begun its publication of the New Anton Bruckner Complete Edition with the 1st Symphony. Over the course of the next few years, Bruckner's works will be published in new, consistently presented volumes, based on modern, up-to-date editorial guidelines.

This project makes it possible to incorporate the results of the last several decades of intensive Bruckner research into the long-term enterprise of a new complete edition of all works by Anton Bruckner. The individual volumes will be edited by internationally-renowned Bruckner specialists. Dr. Thomas Röder (University of Würzburg) has been responsible for the 1st Symphony. This volume of the Complete Edition will be published in spring 2015.

The most important task for the New Anton Bruckner Complete Edition lies in establishing and presenting an authentic music text, in the process incorporating the latest discoveries. All volumes will be published in large-format conductor's scores and in study score format. Matching performance material is also being published. The editions will place greater emphasis on the practical aspects of performance; it is an essential criterion that users can reconstruct and follow all editorial decisions and additions which have been made. Each volume contains a detailed foreword with source details, information on the history of composition and reception and, where applicable, suggestions for performance.

The New Anton Bruckner Complete Edition venture is supported by the International Bruckner Society and the Austrian National Library, and is under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alkor Edtion Kassel will be responsible for the distribution of the performance material on hire linked to every volume of the new edition.
